Summary: The subject of this book is the majolica floor of the XVIth century in the Church of Santa Maria del Riposo, in Fano, (destroyed in 1942), later called Piattelletti Church due to its decoration. The majolica tiles were pilfered by a Roman antiquarian, Giuseppe Giacomini, in 1885, and dispersed throughout Europe. Since the first edition of this book in 1996, a further 83 tiles have been discovered increasing the number known and studied to 448, of an estimated 1600 original pieces displaying geometric and floral elements. An important work on iconography of Renaissance Ceramics.
