Description: Milano: Electa, 2010. 21cm., pbk., 278pp. prof. illus., most in color. Includes two folding plates, in back pocket, loose as issued. Italian text. Summary; Begun back in 1950 with the first City of Gallarate National Visual Arts Prize, the GAM, now MAGa, since the opening of its new premises, immediately set itself the dual aim of creating a new municipal art gallery for contemporary art and to augment its collections over the years by organizing temporary exhibitions. Opened to the public in 1966, in November 2004 it received the important Museum Acknowledgment award from the Lombardy Regional Authority. The book tells the story of the gallery through the wealth of its permanent collection: more than 5,000 artworks: paintings, sculptures, drawings, installations, ceramics, books by famous artists, multimedia works, objects and designs, engravings and screen-printing, from the mid-20th century to the present day. As for the masters represented in the collection, it includes not only incredible works by Afro, Birolli, Carrà, Fortunato Depero, Lucio Fontana, Renato Guttuso, Fausto Melotti, Bruno Munari, Arnaldo and Giò Pomodoro, Prampolini, Sironi, Studio Azzurro, Treccani, Emilio Vedova, but also works by young contemporary artists who are already well-known like Luca Vitone and Alice Cattaneo. The catalog comes in the format of a 'moleskin notebook', an unusual, practical object that also contains two posters of works from the collection.
