Summary: This choice of some one hundred paintings from the collection of the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art chronicles the history of non-figurative Expressionist painting in Paris from the mid-1940s until the early 1960s. These works of primal importance provide a new perspective on this period and allow the reversal of long-held biases regarding the Second School of Paris by showing its vitality and true place in the history of international post-war art, in the absence of chauvinistic tendencies. Introduced by a few works painted immediately before or during the war, the exhibition comprises seven thematic and chronological sections and three monographic presentations dedicated to Pierre Soulages, Georges Mathieu and Hans Hartung, giving the exposure they deserve to the substantial collections built up by Jean Claude Gandur over the years.
