ISBN: 9788885155770
Description: Con l’edizione dell’inventario dei beni di Giovanni Antonio Gattamelata (1467), a cura di Giulia Foladore. Padova: Associazione Centro Studi Antoniani, 2011. 24cm., pbk., 269pp., 74 color illus. Summary: In the volume is reconstructed the story of Erasmo da Narni called Gattamelata (1370-1447) the owner of the famous equestrian monument erected by Donatello in Santo’s square in Padua. Erasmo da Narni, of which has long been known the story of captain general of the army of the Ventian Republic, was the center of a network of family relationships and friendships that involved famous names of the venetian Humanism, like Ciriaco d’Ancona and Francesco Barbaro, and likewise linked to the venetian and fiorentine powers, at the time of doge Francesco Foscari and Cosimo de’ Medici. From the house in via del Vescovado (Bishop’s Street) where Gattmelata lived, frequent university teachers were the franciscans of St. Anthony’s Basilica, noble venetians involved in the renewal of artistic renaissance. This circle of acquaintances, together with the strong family relationships of Gattamelata with the paduan family Lion, make reason of the arrival of Donatello in Padua, incharged with the execution of the monument. The reinterpretation of the documents, also in connection with the contemporary execution of the major altar of St. Anthony’s Basilica, has enabled to highlight certain dynamics clarifying some aspects and noting the problematic of others. The script contains the unique document with the inventory of the assets of the paduan commander drawn in 1467, being published for the first time. (Centro Studi Antoniani, 46)
