Item Number: 119418 Title: ALIGI SASSU Catalogo generale della pittura, Volume primo 1926-1962 Author: Pirovano, Carlo ; Antonello Negri Price: Not Available ISBN: 9788837087166 Description: Milano: Electa, 2012. 32cm., hardcover, 488pp. prof. illus. Summary: Aligi Sassu is one of the leading protagonists of twentieth century Italian art, noted for his powerful palette and chromatically vital wealth of expression. Two volumes, each in its own casket, dedicated to a complete overview of the works of Aligi Sassu, the visionary artist who so brilliantly explored and interpreted the dimension of the "Mediterranean myth" as the metaphor for the "theatrum mundi" of mankind. Born in Milan in 1912, Sassu forged an artistic career for himself from an extremely early age: in 1927 his work was part of a futurist exhibition at the Pesaro Gallery in Milan, while the following year, when he was only a youthful sixteen, he exhibited at the Venice Biennale. In 1928 he and Bruno Munari produced a Manifesto on painting entitled "Dynamism and Muscular Reform". His first important exhibition in Milan was held in 1930 at the Milano Gallery directed by Barbaroux. As Futurism faded into the unfashionable past Sassu was increasingly attracted to primitivism and a correspondingly archaic style. His new drawings and paintings of landscapes and figures concentrated principally on urban themes and modern industrial suburbs. We regret to inform you that this title is no longer available. P.O.
