The ArtChronika Foundation was created and it is presided by Shalva Breus, editor of the most important Russian art magazine, Artchronika, which aims to promote contemporary art in Russia. To fulfill this purpose, the Kandinsky Prize was created in 2007, and it’s considered one of the major national contemporary art prizes in Russia. The prize has become a status symbol of the most significant innovation tendencies and art perspectives. Today Russian Art needs to develope contacts with the rest of the world, and the Kandinsky Prize helps to overcome this problem by organizing exhibition abroad. The works of the finalists and winners of the Kandinsky Prize have been exhibited with great success in Riga, Berlin and London. The exhibition is curated by Andrei Erofeev, a leading expert of russian contemporary art and ex-curator of the National Tretiakov Gallery in Moscow, and Jean-Hubert Martin, ex-director of the Center Georges Pompidou and the Kunsthalle of Berna. Exhibition of the Kandinsky Prize, the largest independent award in Russian contemporary art, presents the works of the best and the most relevant Russian artists – nominees of the five years of competition.
