Item Number: 121553 Title: Sammlung Eitel : In memoriam Bertram Schaefer. Kunst der Nachkriegsjahre in Europa Author: Eitel, Ulrich ; Ludwig Rinn ; Agnes Tietze ; Martin Warnke Price: Not Available ISBN: 9783775734639 Description: Stuttgart: Hatje Cantz, 2012. 29cm., hardcover, 160pp., ca. 76 color illus. German text. Summary: Seventeen years ago Marburg businesswoman Hilde Eitel (1915 – 2010) bequeathed her art collection to the Marburg Universitätsbund, so that after her death it would be exhibited in a museum for art and cultural history. Eitel began collecting post-war art in the 1950s, including the approximately sixty works that are now part of the Marburg Museum. Paintings, works on paper, and sculptures by artists such as Josef Albers, Jean Dubuffet, Lucio Fontana, Yves Klein, Piero Manzoni and the German Zero Group, Giorgio Morandi, Ernst Wilhelm Nay, and Wols span a number of movements, from Abstract Expressionism and Informel to monochromatic painting and Zero art. This is the first publication to present these works of art, and it also traces the biographical, philanthropical, and entrepreneurial aspects in the life of Hilde Eitel, as she combined an interest in art, a passion for collecting, and her work for the family wallpaper factory in Marburg.
