Exhibition to be held at Bucerius Kunstforum, Hamburg. German text. Summary: Alexander Rodchenko (1891–1956) was a driving force in the Russian avant-garde movement. In his works, which included paintings, collages, photomontages, photographs, sculptures, advertisements and typography, he captured the dynamic transformation of Russian society, where a new world was created in the years following the October Revolution. The exhibition "Alexander Rodchenko. A New World" gives an overview of the wide range of media found in his work. It centers on his painting, which culminated in his 1921 triptych of the colors red, yellow and blue. Rodchenko’s sculptures are also evidence of his experimental ideas. The interplay between light and shadow in his floating spatial constructions with their variations on basic geometric shapes are visualizations of Constructivism and its utopian principles. The loans for this exhibition come from Moscow collections, including the artist’s family, the Tretyakov State Gallery, the Pushkin Museum and the Sepheroth Foundation as well as other international collections.
