Item Number: 124164 Title: Bracciodiferro : Gaetano Pesce, Alessandro Mendini, 1971-1975 Author: Pansera, Anty Price: Not Available ISBN: 9788836626106 Description: Milano: Silvana, 2013. 28cm., pbk., 120pp. illus. Exhibition held at Biblioteca di Santa Maria Incoronata, Milano. Italian-English text. Summary: The exhibition features rare objects which have never before been exhibited, produced in the early 1970s by a team known as Bracciodiferro, born from an idea of Gaetano Pesce who subsequently involved Alessandro Mendini. The pieces were produced by the Cassina Centre of Research and Development and Aldo Cichero, all of which is owed to the will of Cesare Cassina. Also exhibited are drawings, original documents, graphics by Pesce and Mendini and the correspondence generated by this innovative group: indeed, one of the distinguishing features of Bracciodiferro was the devising not only of the product but all the ways in which it was to be communicated, from graphics and catalogues to the photographic campaigns, using the most up-to-date techniques of the time. The theme – the forerunner of current trends – is Art Design, single or limited edition pieces which challenge normal methods of corporate series production and are destined to become collectors' items. Bracciodiferro was an experience which permitted the exploration of the most innovative trends of design culture and the testing of the market with the production of multiples in numbered editions, destined above all for an art gallery audience.
