ISBN: 9780983020882
Description: Ponce: Museo de Arte de Ponce, 2012. 30cm., pbk., 175pp., more than 70 color illus. From the museum's website: The Museo de Arte de Ponce is pleased to be organizing The Art of the Empire: Three Centuries of British Art, which presents a panorama of portraits, landscapes, and religious and mythological paintings and sculptures from the 18th through the early 20th century by artists such as Thomas Gainsborough, Joshua Reynolds, Benjamin Williams Leader, William Etty, Benjamin West, and George Harcourt. As well as featuring works from the museum’s celebrated Pre-Raphaelite collection, including works by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Thomas Seddon, John Everett Millais, William Holman Hunt, Ford Madox Brown, Fredrerick Sandys, and Gustav Pope. The British Collection is the first extensive group of objects to receive new scholarship since 1984, when the Museo de Arte de Ponce published the second edition of a catalogue featuring paintings and sculpture from its European and American schools. As a result of a collaboration that began in 2005 with the Tate Britain to develop joint conservation, exhibition, research, and education projects, the exhibition will be accompanied by the upcoming publication of the Museo de Arte de Ponce’s British Collection Catalogue, featuring texts by Alison Smith, Head of British Art to 1900 at Tate Britain, Sally-Anne Huxtable, Adjunct Professor of the History of Art and Design at the University of Northumbria, and Heather Birchall, independent scholar and Tate Britain collaborator, along with an introduction by Cheryl Hartup, then Chief Curator of the Museo de Arte de Ponce.
