This publication reproduces and comments 18 sketchbooks which accompanied these artists in Rome. They offer a complete view of an artistic practice common to the European culture from this period and gives a first-hand source of information to understand the artistic and personal context of the time. José Manuel Matilla is the person responsible for this catalogue, and he is the Exhibition Curator and head of the Department of drawings and prints of the Museo del Prado. In this catalogue you will find essays of a dozen prestigious national and international specialists in addition to the synopsis of the sketchbooks belonging to the Prado as well as other institutions in the world.
