Item Number: 127539 Title: Le Livre des Morts d’Aset-Ouret : Museo Gregoriano Egizio (Papyrus Vatican 38603) Author: Albert, Florence Price: Not Available ISBN: 9788882712563 Description: Citta del Vaticano: Edizioni Musei Vaticani, 2012. 2 vols. 35cm., pbk., slipcase, 226pp. plus plates. Summary: Important study in 2 volumes, published in French only, the sixth of the Aegyptiaca Gregoriana series, dedicated to the collections of the Department of Far Eastern Antiquities of the Vatican Museums. The study, which inaugurates the new layout of the series and starts a systematic project of reconstruction of the Egyptian papyrus-theca, focuses on the funerary papyrus which once belonged to the female musician of Amun-Ra, Aset-Ouret, called "the joyful of sistrum”. The papyrus, written in Hieratic and surviving incomplete in 40 fragments, encloses formulas that guide the deceased in the afterlife, and in its stylistic heterogeneity, testifies a singular religious tradition of the late period. The first volume, embellished by an enclosed poster with the reconstruction of the papyrus in scale 1:1, provides introductory data on provenance, state of preservation, material and describes in detail the structure of the papyrus, focusing on the contents and analyzing the particulars of the signs. Then it proposes the transliteration and the translation of texts from Hieratic to French. Comments that explain themes and meanings of the formulas then follow. Finally, an assay that contextualizes the papyrus through a comparison with the Theban traditions and one last section that explains the paleographic criteria used to examine the exhibit. The second volume collects the tables with color reproductions of the reconstruction of the papyrus, the single sheets and the related transcripts in hieroglyphics. (Museo Gregoriano Egizio.
