Item Number: 127849 Title: THIAGO ROCHA PITTA Author: Fuchs, Kathrin ; Larissa Tsoukker (eds) Price: Not Available ISBN: 9788867490509 Description: Milan: Mousse Publishing, 2013. 29cm., pbk., 80pp. prof. illus., most in color. Italian-English text. Exhibition held at Gluck50, Milan. Summary: One of the ten highlights of the 30th São Paulo Biennial – according to David Ebony of Art in America – was the "majestic and abject" work of the Brazilian artist Thiago Rocha Pitta, which thus gained the international spotlight. Gluck50, a new Milanese cultural player conceived as a residency for artists, has given the Italian audience the chance to appreciate the quality of Rocha Pitta’s work, its imposing materic presence and particular earthy, fossil-like sculptural aesthetic that establishes fascinating links with host sites. The artist’s residency has generated two site-specific works, L'Eremo, a cement-coated curtain that rises from the floor of the Gluck50 gallery, concealing the access to an underground passage, and Il Campo Accampa, a similar semi-nomadic structure installed in the square in front of the church of Santa Maria Incoronata, and containing local flora.
