Item Number: 128083 Title: MAN RAY : Models Author: Man Ray, Janus Price: Not Available ISBN: 9788864031583 Description: Poggibonsi: Carlo Cambi, 2013. 32 x 24cm., pbk., 124., 32pp. illus. Exhibition held at Fondazione Marconi Arte moderna and contemporanea, Milano. Italian text. Summary: Man Ray’s mind was making him relive an unforgettable return to a mysterious and inscrutable past, when he started working on his own photographic Album. He wanted to go back over his whole life, penetrating a forest of memories, making his explorer’s soul, part of his unconscious nature, live again. In a moment of peace and separation he wanted to observe once again the paths he had already walked in America, in his early youth, and in France, in his maturity, and that had became enigmatic over the years. This volume presents a daily collection of pictures featuring models he had met and spent time with, especially those of the first Parisian period, from 1921 to July 1940, the year of his return to America, when living in the Nazi-occupied Paris had become impossible. As in an erotic compendium, Man Ray gathers up his most precious memoirs in this Album, a kind of diary or loving anthology. The artist makes a very rigorous choice among several photographs and this selection gives the collection its most intimate and autobiographic sense. This precious Album, reproduced from the original pattern, that is to say with ivory colour pages, a reddish cardboard cover, and around 31x24 cm format, is contained in a box together with a handy volume, 15x22 cm format, in which Janus – a friend, as well as a sensitive and skilful interpreter of Man Ray – explains, and comments, step by step, every section and every photographic choice, unlocking treasure chests in the artist’s life and art. This edition is limited and numbered.
