Summary: Into the Light is a major retrospective of the work of William Blair Bruce (1859-1906), Canada’s first Impressionist artist. Born in Hamilton, Ontario, and trained as an architect, Bruce left for Paris in 1881 to paint full-time. He studied at the Julian Academy with Fleury and Bouguereau, and then joined the group of international artists who studied alongside Monet at Giverny. This artistic community had a profound influence on Bruce, inspiring him to experiment with the impressionistic, spontaneous style of brushwork which characterises his paintings. Bruce later moved to Gotland, with his wife the Swedish sculptor Caroline Benedicks, where he built his home and studio. We regret to inform you that this title is no longer available. P.O.
