Item Number: 131517 Title: JULIAO SARMENTO : The selective glance Author: Eccher, Danilo ; Riccardo Passoni Price: Not Available ISBN: 9788836629190 Description: Milano: Silvana, 2014. 28cm., hardcover, 216pp., 150 color illus. Exhibition held at GAM, Torino. English text. Summary: GAM is showcasing the development of Sarmento’s art research following a rigorous curatorial point of view organised according to thematic criteria, analysing his oeuvre with a critical outlook. Starting from the works revolving around the feminine figure and the object, and finishing with the works devoted to architecture, including the two 2010 Cromlech and 2011 R.O.C. (40 plus one) videos, wherein the woman-architecture union is recomposed. In this exhibition a selection of approximately 30 works, among the most significant ones in his art production, bears witness to his all-encompassing view of the world, conveyed by Sarmento with different media: photography, painting and, more recently, sculpture. The works here exhibited cover his entire art production, from the end of the 1970s up to his most recent works. Within the framework of Dialogues, Julião Sarmento has chosen, among the works in the museum collection, two different inspiring “models” for his art research: Italian painter Giorgio Morandi and American artist Sol Lewitt, two artists who seem far apart but who both keep a grounded formal research, a characteristic Sarmento considers a necessary starting and finishing point.
