Item Number: 132688 Title: 7 fotografi a Brera : Luca Carrà, Mario Cresci, Paola Di Bello, Mario Dondero, Carlo Orsi, Giovanni Ricci, Annalisa Sonzogni Author: Bandera, Sandrina (et al) Price: Not Available ISBN: 9788857225968 Description: Milano: Skira, 2014. 28cm., pbk., 160pp., 73 color, 43 b&w illus. Italian-English text. Exhibition held at Pinacoteca di Brera, Milano. Summary: The Pinacoteca di Brera has a longstanding relationship with photography. The first campaign documenting the museum rooms was undertaken in 1903, after its refurbishment by superintendent Corrado Ricci. The last was carried out when the Pinacoteca reopened in 1950, after being rebuilt in the wake of the Second World War. But ever since it seems that photographers, those viewers with a special eye, have ceased to immortalize the Brera’s exhibition spaces. The “Grande Brera” project and long-awaited opening of Palazzo Citterio will bring about another major change in the museum; that’s why we asked seven photographers from different generations and schools, namely Luca Carrà, Mario Cresci, Paola Di Bello, Mario Dondero, Carlo Orsi, Giovanni Ricci and Annalisa Sonzogni, to capture the manifold aspects of the Brera as it is now. Each photographer adopted a different technique to depict the life of this institution according to his or her personal sensibility. Their images present an unusual picture, sometimes ironical or mysterious, but always fascinating, of a museum that has been a bastion of Milan’s cultural identity for over two centuries.
