Description: Milano: Skira, 2015. 28cm., pbk., 152pp., 133 illus. Exhibition held at Palazzo Ducale, Genova. Italian-English text. Summary: Eugenio Carmi went to the United States in 1965 to teach an art course in Carbondale, Illinois. While there, he was taken by his American colleagues to visit the town of Carmi, not far from the university. “Carmi in Carmi”: an amusing episode that provides the starting point for this publication. Edited by Nicoletta Pallini with over a hundred illustrations, it offers an overview of the artist’s long and multifaceted career from the early production of the late 1940s through the experimentation of the 1950s and the abstract Informel works of the 1960s, the “imaginary electric signs”, the illustrations for Umberto Eco’s children’s stories and the legendary Stripsody with Cathy Berberian, up to the rigorous geometric pieces of the 1970s and all the way to the present. Art that is always characterized by rigour but also by harmony, poetry and emotion.
