Item Number: 136242 Title: Vom Konstrukt zum Typus : Der Wandel der strukturellen Form von Tragwerken im 18. und 19. Jahrhundert Author: Rinke, Mario Price: Not Available ISBN: 9783422073210 Description: München: Deutscher Kunstverlag, 2015. 26cm., hardcover, ca. 208pp., 98 b&w illus. German text. Summary: The use of frameworks in buildings transformed considerably during the Industrial Revolution. Changing architectural tasks, in the shape of museums, exhibition halls or railway stations, made themselves known alongside new construction methods and materials, in a traditionallybound world of thought influenced by craftsmanship. The institutionalization of education exerted substantial influence. In this climate of sweeping change, between technical inventions and theoretical foundations, revolutionary and, above all, rational, uniform constructions were created in the period that followed. Nevertheless, the interplay of an ongoing scientification and new materials, like iron and reinforced concrete, fundamentally changed not only construction, but the understanding of construction itself. This examination traces changes from the composite frameworks of antiquity up to the direct and systematized application of triangle patterns, for example – from construct to type. Using numerous contemporary sources, Mario Rinke has written the first cultural history of the framework.
